Under the influence to vote, all bars to close by 11 pm 2012-01-24North Goa District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Mihir Vardhan and the South Goa District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Sandeep Jacques have issued a directive that all the bars in the state must close down at 11 pm from January 25 to February 5. This is because voters will be plied with free liquor by the candidates.
From February 6, election notification day till March 6 declaration of results, all bars, restaurants and hotels in North Goa will have to be closed by 10 pm. All bars will remain closed on polling and counting days (March 3 and March 6).
Violations of the directives could result in cancelled licences and other more stringent punishment. In a twist of delicious irony, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation will be hosting the four-day
wine festival Grape Escapade in INOX Courtyard from Jan 26 -29. |
