Wendell releases his first book Moda Goa History and Style at St Cajetan
2012-01-27
Fashion designer Wendell Rodricks turns author with the launch of his coffee table book Moda Goa History and Style at St Cajetan, Old Goa today. A first of its kind, the book traces the history of Goa told through clothes, from the pre-historic early settlers, through the Portuguese regime and now back to Indian trends. We've gone through Buddhist and Jain periods too along with the Tuglaqs and Khiljis and each period has been recounted through history and the fashion trends that accompanied each age.
Besides the Indian edition, the book will also have and International edition to be released later.
The launch of Moda Goa is actually the second launch of the book. The first was on January 23 at the Jaipur Literature Festival. Both launches have been accompanied by sizeable upheavals due to circumstances beyond Wendell Rodricks' control.
The Jaipur launch took place surrounded by all the brouhaha of the Salman Rushdie ruckus. The Goa launch was supposed to take place at the Christian Art Museum, but thieves effected a daring robbery at the venue and also murdered the Museum guard. The venue then had to be changed overnight to St Cajetan.
