Tillari water to go to hotels instead of fields, Saligao farmers call it a scam 2012-02-07The Goa Tillari Irrigation Development Corporation's (GTIDC) irrigation project in Saligao was meant to bring in water for irrigation. Instead the pipeline itself is bringing grief to the farmers as their fields are getting fragmented by the pipeline. Farmers of Saligao have called for a re-alignment. Not only that, this project that was meant for irrigation for agriculture is going to be diverted to the hotels and residences on the beach belt of Calangute and Candolim.
No openings were kept to release water into fields in Guirim, Bastora and parts of Saligao. The irrigation pipeline project looks like another huge scam.
On Monday around 200 affected farmers gathered in Saligao to oppose the ongoing work. They complain that they had not been served notices for the land acquisition. Pipes and machinery are kept haphazardly in the fields, preventing the farmers from cultivating their fields.
The farmers have also threatened to agitate further if their demands are not met. |
