Recent disruption sets KRC back by Rs 1.36 cr 2011-08-26MP Shantaram Naik asked the Union Minister of State Railways Bharatsingh Solanki about the loss suffered by the Konkan Railway Corporation (KRC) during the recent disruption in services due to landslides etc. KRC suffered a total loss of Rs1 crore 36 lakh on restoration and other expenditure.
Rs 86.50 lakh was spent on repairs and restoration while Rs 63.86 lakh was spent on transhipment of passengers, catering arrangements etc.
Added to this measures to overcome disruption of rail traffic during monsoon season, various geotechnical safety works like flattening of slopes in cutting, lowering of berms, provision for storm water run-off drains, retaining walls, rock bolting and concreting works in tunnels have been done.
Night inspection of officers and staff has been intensified on this route and patrolling of tracks at vulnerable sections has been undertaken.
On June 17, 600 cubic metres of soil and an equal amount of retaining wall came crashing down on the tracks Ratnagiri and Nivsar stations. Restoration work was completed two days later on June 19. But then a landslide of 600 cubic metres of retaining wall and 13000 cubic metres soil, fell on the track on that day. On 22 July another landslide disrupted services between Sindhudurg and Kudal stations.
