Mapusa citizen requests Transport Department to clean its act

A request has been given in writing by Deepak Gadekar of Mapusa, to the Director, Transport Department saying that the public at large is worried about the safety of bus commuters after the Calvim tragedy.

The letter requests the Director of Transport to see who is helping bus owners to get fitness certification without testing or proper inspection of the vehicles. He has asked the Director to see that proper testing and inspection of old vehicles is done by the Director.

Gadekar requested the Director to check the Emergency Exit doors of all the buses, some exit doors don't work and some buses do not have any emergency exit doors.

He requested the department to cancel permits of all buses which complete 15 years.

To insure the safe journey for bus commuters the letter said the Transport Department must conduct surprise inspections of all public transport buses .

Finally to check all the vehicles which were given fitness checks without inspection of buses in the last 6 months.
