Goa Muslim Forum launched 2011-12-17When did it happen? Four constituencies in Goa have a strong Muslim base. They call themselves the Goa Muslims Forum (GMF). They now want representation in the State Assembly. A federation of Muslim community organizations claiming to number a total of 150 organizations will lobby to get nominations from the Congress Party for tickets in four constituencies including those represented by Digambar Kamat and Ravi Naik.
Goa Muslims Forum (GMF), an independent association of 150 Muslim organizations, told reporters that they have been traditionally supporting the Congress party due to which the party could win several seats. GMF has said that they should be allowed to contest Mormugao, Vasco, Ponda and Margao constituencies on the Congress symbol as these constituencies have substantial Muslim voter base.
GMF coordinator Shaikh Iftikar said that Chief Minister Digambar Kamat and Home Minister Ravi Naik should not be given tickets in their respective constituencies. He said they were Muslim dominated constituencies.The spokesperson also promised that if the Congress did not give them representation, then the GMF would approach the opposition parties. |
