FRIDAY BALCAO: menace of misleading ads and their impact on consumers 2012-02-22Friday Balcao the fortnightly discussion event to be held on 24th February will focus on the menace of misleading advertisements & the impact on Consumers.
Complaints about advertisments which have exaggerated and grossly unrealistic claims of benefits are quite common. These advertisements treat the consumer as a gullible buyer of the product or service.
What are the options to control this menace? Will harsh regulation serve the purpose? What is the line between control and discipline? Creativity and sensitivity? Ethics vs commercial interest of the client? Is the exisitng monitoring and control mechanism at the State & Central levels sufficient or should there be more teeth with a regulatory authority? These and other related issues will be covered in the discussion.
