Playschool for delinquents
Technically we are going to have playschools in Goa from Nursery to Std VIII. A student cannot be expelled or made to repeat a class. If you cannot be expelled you can do anything you like, break furniture, assault other students and teaching staff, anything that is not outright breaking the law. It would be prudent for the schools to have a hotline to the local police station, because while Dr Celsa Pinto’s circular says no expelling or failing, it says nothing of no jailing. And we have at least one high profile Std VIII dropout who can only be stopped temporarily by the long arm of the law. How else can the teachers control the students?
Motocross training at Campal
One loses track of how many sections of plain rock and mud criss cross the just completed DB Road at Campal. There are two sections which actually have earthen mounds and you could fly across them, except that there’s bumper to bumper traffic since vehicles proceed at the pace of a snail with a sprain in its tail. If it wasn’t for the traffic, the stretch from INOX to CCD could be a pretty good motocross training track. Almost one month has passed and the monsoons are approaching. Instead of putting more work gangs on the project, work seems to be happening in only one cross drain being constructed near Miramar Residency. What are Makhija and Mr and Mrs Surendra Furtado doing? Do they fly over the road? And what’s Monserrate doing? If Monserrate is trying to win the elections from Panjim, he’s making a royal mess of it.
Both our Mayors have a problem with their own illegal structures
We have a Mayor Yatin Parekh and we have a Deputy Mayor Rudresh Chodankar. One became Mayor because he beat the high profile ex-Mayor and Mr Clean Ashok Naik. The other became Dy Mayor because he deserted the Opposition and joined Monserrate’s Panel. They have something in common, sources close to these two worthies say both are accused of having illegal structures built. The Mayor’s is a hotel above Café Bhonsle in a heritage building, where an illegal mezzanine has been built. The Dy Mayor’s house itself is supposed to be illegal, since he demolished his old house in the heritage precinct and rebuilt it with more floors and no setback from the road. If these allegations about the two men sharing the top position in the CCP are true, then Panjim is doomed.
