Judge Anuja Prabhudesai of the Children’s Court today directed that the Headmistress of Deep Vihar School Mrs. Sharlet Furtado and other staff be booked under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code for destruction of evidence after the rape of the 7 year-old Vasco girl.
The 7 year old girl was raped on January 14th around 10.30 am in the toilet of Deep Vihar School at Vasco run by the Mormugao Port Trust. The police were informed only three hours after the rape took place, while the school staff washed away all the evidence. The victim received medical attention only eight hours after she was brutally raped. She received counseling only 15 days later.
Judge Anuja Prabhudesai today also directed the police to investigate whether the draft of five lakhs which was offered to the victim’s father by an MPT official Mr. Suresh Shirwadkar was to hush up the case.
The Court today also directed the Vasco Dy SP to transfer to another officer the investigation of the case pending against the school staff at Mormugao Police Station as the current investigating officer Police Inspector Suresh Gaonkar was also the complainant in the case. Incidentally the wife of Police Inspector Suresh Gaonkar is also a teacher in the same school.
The father of the rape victim had in his petition to the Children’s Court submitted that the school headmistress Sharlet Furtado, Class teacher Deesha Kavathankar and the head clerk Mrs. Brazina Godinho be booked under Section 201 of the Indian Penal Code for destroying vital crucial evidence after his daughter was raped.
The victim’s father was represented by Adv. Aires Rodrigues while Public Prosecutor Sarojini Sardinha appeared for the Prosecution.
An action taken report has to be shown to the Court by the police.
At the last hearing the Court directed the Police to contact Interpol to find out the whereabouts of the suspect Monty on the day of the rape.
